The concept OF DIGNITY in the Russian and Chinese linguistic and cultural worldview

Abstract. Attempts are made to offer the presentation of the linguistic and cultural model of the concept DIGNITY /
尊严 ‘zunyan’ in Russian and Chinese. The linguistic and cultural concept DIGNITY /严 ‘zunyan’ is dealt with in the context of understanding language as a universal means of ethnic expression and form of culture. The article analyzes the reflection of Russian and Chinese mentalities in the concept DIGNITY / 尊严 ‘zunyan’, it studies and discusses in detail the concept representation in Russian and Chinese. The authors make a lexical-semantic analysis of linguistic units that represent the concept DIGNITY/ 尊严 ‘zunyan’. This research allows understanding the Russian and Chinese mental world most fully by means of describing linguistic and cultural worldview and studying the culture impact on the ur-
gent linguistic processes occurring in society. Analyzed lexical material has allowed to elucidate lexical-emantic groups which reflect the components of the meaning of the investigated concept and make a conclusion about the ethno-cultural specificity of the represented concept DIGNITY / 尊严'zunyan’ in the studied linguistic cultures. Lexical units "love, strong suit, honor" indicate a conceptual component meaning of
the examined concept in Russian. A wide representation of the value component "necessity" in the studied proverb determines the ethno-cultural specificity of the concept DIGNITY/严'zunyan' in Chinese linguistic culture. The investigation of factual material and analysis of results of the performed associative experiment among teachers and students of Vladivostok State University has helped to clarify the specificity
of representing the concept DIGNITY/ 尊严 ‘zunyan’ in modern society and highlight basic and additional characteristics of the examined concept in the Chinese and Russian linguistic and cultural worldviews. The results of the research are presented in the form of linguistic and cultural model of the concept DIGNITY/ 尊严 ‘zunyan’ in Russian and Chinese.
